The 2025 CSAD Global Read-a-Thon, “Roots, Journey of Us,” focuses on roots and migration journeys that have moved people across towns, countries and oceans. It is brought to you by the Center for Studies on Africa and Its Diaspora (CSAD) at Georgia State University. This rich experience features authors, scholars, entertainers and more.

The famed Vienna Philharmonic rings in the New Year with its annual concert from Vienna's Musikverein, conducted for the first time by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Performances by the Vienna State Ballet and location segments hosted by Hugh Bonneville.

Glamorous lady detective Phryne Fisher returns in a cinematic sequel to the wildly popular TV series. In 1929 Jerusalem, Phryne's rescue of a young Bedouin girl leads her on a globe-trotting adventure to uncover priceless treasures, wartime secrets and an ancient tomb bearing a terrible curse, with the help of handsome detective Jack Robinson.

All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914
The Western Front, Christmas, 1914. Out of the violence, a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music and peace. A remarkable true story, told in the words and songs of the men who lived it.

Women at War
France, 1914. Four women’s lives collide. A cabaret singer, a factory owner’s wife, a nurse fleeing a dark past and a devout mother superior protecting her convent face impossible choices as war engulfs the nation. In French with English subtitles.

The American St. Nick
During WWII, Wiltz, Luxembourg, suffered under German occupation - streets renamed, language banned and traditions outlawed. In 1944, the 28th Infantry Division organized a party to revive the town's Saint Nick celebration. Soldiers provided treats, with one dressed as Saint Nick, fostering a lasting bond between Americans and locals, a tradition that endures today.
